Iggy Pop slams intelligent musicians

The legendary singer - dubbed 'the godfather of punk' for the sound he created with garage band The Stooges - has blasted pretentious musicians for airing their "dull" opinions.

He said: "These fellas asked me to do a video announcement for my new album.

"I took great pains not to think first because the thing I can't stand is a rock star who thinks he's got brains. They're always so damned dull.

"Anyone from Smashing Pumpkins to - what's the one with Fred Durst? Limp Bizkit. And there are a million billion of them, and people think they are gods."

Iggy - real name James Osterberg - also revealed he doesn't like sleeping in his own house in Miami, US, which he describes as "a dump".

He added: "I keep this little cabin by the river for Iggy business. It's a dump, looks like a Mississippi shack. It can be dangerous so I try not to spend the night too often but I love it."

Iggy's latest album, the jazz and French literature influenced 'Preliminaires', is available now.

Robyn was not accepted in her home country

The Scandinavian singer found it difficult to be accepted in her home country and knew she would have to learn not to care what people thought in order to succeed.

She said: "There is a sense of isolation there. There's this idea you're an oddball, far up at the top of the world, where no one cares about you and this manifests itself in two ways.

"Either you listen to people telling you not to dream, and accept that you're an outsider, or you just go against them and make your oddness a virtue."

Robyn also admitted she feels "blessed" by the success of 'Every Heartbeat' - which topped the UK charts in 2007 - because it was so unexpected.

Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, she said: "Everyone had said for years that my music wasn't working, it was too weird and not commercial enough so to come to a country I'd never really been to before and have a song go to number one without really working for it, it says something about the power of the song and what people really want.

"I felt very blessed by its success but it felt like a validation too."

Adam Ant is planning a comeback tour

The 'Prince Charming’ singer – who spent a year in psychiatric care after being sectioned in 2003 – has put his health problems behind him, slimmed down and feels 'reborn', thanks to new girlfriend Clare.

He said: 'I've been hitting the gym and walking a lot. I feel great, better than I have in years. Clare has also been making sure I eat only the finest, healthy food.'

At his lowest point, 54-year-old Adam – real name Stuart Goddard – was arrested for waving an imitation pistol at pub goers in 2002 but now insists he is back from the brink and ready to thank his fans for their support with a run of shows.

A source said: 'He has been through so much but gradually he's been getting back on his feet, thanks to the support he's been given in his personal life and by his devoted army of fans. Nothing's been set in stone in terms of dates but there are meetings going on at present to plan shows.

'It's undeniable he's looking amazing at the moment if you think about where he was only as few years ago.'

The twice-divorced star shot to fame with his group Adam and the Ants in 1980.

Following a string of hits, the group disbanded in 1982 and Adam went on to enjoy a successful solo career before turning to acting in 1985. He later failed in several bids to relaunch his music career.

He was awarded the Icon accolade at the Q Awards last October.

Katie Melua almost died after sleeping on a hotel balcony

The 'Closest Thing To Crazy’ star was enjoying the view of the Manhattan skyline at a party on the eighth floor of a New York hotel when she nodded off and came close to plunging 70ft to the street below.

Katie revealed the incident on her blog, saying: 'I had a near miss with death on a hotel balcony in New York after having had too little sleep, where you think you’re dreaming and you can fly.'

Her spokesperson later explained what had happened, saying: 'Katie had been on a tour of America, travelling around, just her and her guitar. She was at a party, had a few drinks and was very tired.

'Outside on the balcony she was sitting on the railing. She’d had too little sleep and was dreaming but unfortunately this was while she was on the railing.'

The sleeping star was soon noticed by a fellow reveller, who ordered her inside saying: 'I’ve had a really good night and I don’t want it to be ruined with, ',and then this girl fell off the balcony.’ '
